HOW IT WORKS

The Pixie iOS SDK

Building your own solution on top of our LoT technology platform enables you to focus on all the cool stuff. We’ve dealt with the HW elements and system design, such as RF protocols, UWB, BLE, pairing, advertising, tags administrations etc. so you don’t have to.

Add-On SDK

The add-on SDK works together with the Pixie App. It’s a great solution to minimize the time-to- market for iOS Apps and fast prototyping.

The Pixie app manages and employs the setup of the below functions:

  • Account creation
  • Pairing Points
  • Adding / deleting Points
  • Editing (change name or image) Points

Since you won’t need to develop and test these, time-to-market is significantly reduced. The Add-on SDK enables the following:

  • Inquiry of all Pixie networks in range and their members
  • Distance probing between any two Pixie Points in range
  • RTLS - get accurate location coordinates of a moving Pixie Point relative to other anchors (static) Pixie Points
  • Documentation, development and debugging tools

Location of things SDK

The LoT SDK enables developers to build location awareness systems from the ground up using the existing Pixie hardware. The LoT SDK enables the following:

  • Create an account in the Pixie Cloud
  • Inquiry of all Pixie networks in range and their members
  • Pairing Points
  • Adding / deleting Points
  • Editing (change name or image) Points
  • Distance probing between any two Pixie Points in range
  • RTLS - get accurate location coordinates of a moving Pixie Point relative to other anchors (static) Pixie Points
  • Pixie account management (like passwords and emails changes)
  • Documentation, development and debugging tools

How Does LoT work?

The Pixie Point

Each Pixie Point includes a 2.4GHz ISM controller, an 802.15.4a radio, power management unit, a power source (LiMnO2 primary battery) and a wide-band antenna. It is controlled by an embedded firmware that manages the Pixie Point operations, such as distance measurements, standard Bluetooth activities and a unique Pixie Network Protocol actions. A small, efficient and incredibly powerful piece of hardware.

SDK

The SDK, running on an iOS device, is responsible for the local management of the Pixie Points. The key functions are to establish the connections to the Points, establish the Pixie Network (for multiple Points), managing ranging activities and apply the Location Engine algorithms.

Ranging

The accurate distance between Pixie Points is a must, in order to create the accurate relative locations between points. Pixie uses the Time of Flight (ToF) method.

With ToF, two Pixie Points measure the time it takes for RF signals to travel between each other. Measuring ToF leads to accurate and sustainable distance estimation, relying on the constant RF propagation speed (speed of light). For maximum accuracy, Points are using an 802.15.4a Ultra Wide Band (UWB), two-way ToF measurement.

Pixie Network

Pixies Points communicate with each other and form a robust self-managing network of things, that is completely private and secure.

The mesh network architecture provides 4 main benefits:

  • Power optimization for the Points
  • Location accuracy improvements. Using the network, the SDK can maintain a matrix of distances between Points

Location Engine

The location engine calculates the exact location of a moving Pixie location tag relative to a static anchor points.

The map is a set of accurate coordinates of the Points in the specific network. With multiple Points and real life noises involved in the measurements, the algorithmic engine optimizes performance by flattening and filtering the raw measurements. Our broad experience in this area ensures the output map is accurate and reliable.

Pixie Cloud

Keeping security and privacy at the highest standards requires account management that couples each Point to its owner. Pixie Points correspond with a specific account, not a specific device. Pixie Points ownership management is done by the Pixie Cloud.
